Autism is a neuro-developmental condition, and the symptoms may not always be evident, especially in the early years. Because autism spectrum disorder varies widely in symptoms and severity, making a diagnosis can be difficult. The most accurate process to assess autism is with a multidisciplinary assessment procedure that includes a records review, detailed developmental history, description of current behaviors, assessment of cognitive functioning, and observations of functioning which is best accomplished through the administration of the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS). Through a comprehensive evaluation, Dr. Hyken is able to accurately assess if one is on the autism spectrum. Once the evaluation is complete, Dr. Hyken will consult with the family and provide treatment recommendations.
